The Art of Unmasking Your Brilliance

Trusting the Process

Meditations & Musings

…now a mid-week offering

“The hardest think to learn is to trust the process.”
-Mother Catherine Westin

On those days when trusting the process
feels like a challenge,
you, like me, may find that the following mantra
offers support  for walking the creative path:

May I be filled with loving kindness.

May I be well.

May I be at peace and at ease.

May I be happy.

Your Wild Intuition

Monday Meditations & Musings

iStock_000018148075XSmallIt is always with excitement that I wake up in the morning wondering what my intuition will toss me, like gifts from the sea.  I work with it and rely on it.  It’s my partner.
~Jonas Salk

in.tu.i.tion  [in-too-ish-uh n] noun

1. direct perception of truth, fact, etc., independent of any reasoning process; immediate apprehension.

2. a fact, truth, etc. perceived in this way.

3. a keen and quick insight.

4. the quality or ability of having such direct perception or quick insight.

How do you allow your intuition to guide you…in life and in the work you create?

The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition.  What you’ll discover will be wonderful.  What you’ll discover is yourself.
~Alan Alda

Your intuition will tell you where you need to go; it will connect you with people you should meet; it will guide you toward work that is meaningful for you-work that brings you joy, work that feels right for you.
~Shakti Gawain

This week, embrace the Brave Artist in you….listen for the voice of your intuition speaking, and follow the guidance it offers you.  Resist the temptation to over-think things.  Instead, act on your intuition in each moment and witness the wonder that unfolds!

Monday Meditations & Musings

We meet he people we’re supposed to meet.

On my path, I met a teacher who shared the following:

We are here to Love and to Learn.

I think about her words often.

This is what I’ve come to believe:

We are here to Learn to Love.

In Bloom

Monday Meditations & Musings

We don’t expect a fern to grow into an oak.

Nor do we look for the daisies to mimic the tulips.

Everywhere we look, nature celebrates diversity!

Why then, would we ever try to be anything but our own authentic selves?

Let’s let go of the “shoulds” and instead, allow the most beautiful version of ourselves to bloom.

With hearts wide open, I’ll be me, and you be you.

Monday Meditations & Musings

I’ve been working with the Tarot a lot this Summer.  It’s a magical medium…providing wonder-filled clues about the path were on, and the choices of the moment.  One of the things I love most about the Tarot is how it supports us in re-framing situations.  There is no good or bad, instead there is this moment, full of opportunities to learn and to love.  The following musing on “The Fool” (the first card in the Tarot deck) was originally posted on 11.11.11.  I wrote it then to celebrate the  launch of this blog.  I share it with you again now, as an invitation to celebrate whatever adventure you are beginning!

Be The Fool.

Step into your dream.
Live it. Breathe it. Love it.
Love it all.
There is no good.  There is no bad.
There is only you, now.

Wake up.
In this life, every moment counts.

Who are you?
Tell me about your being-ness.
What is your passion?
What brings you to life?
When you tap into your genius, your essential self, the divinity within…
How do you feel?
Describe the energy of those moments.
The answer is there, in the energy itself.
It is the energy.
It is you, revealed.

What happens when you step into the world…aglow?
When your radar is perfectly tuned, and you are completely
When your being-ness is in complete alignment with your soul.
When you show up as the most authentic version of you.
We can see it then, in your eyes… they sparkle and dance.
This is the YOU the world longs to meet.
You: Perfectly Present.
Thought disappears and you move from a deep place of being.
Energy moves through you and out into the world.
You are in flow.
You are inspired.
You are a force and a source of life.

Do you know this place inside of you?

Living from this place is about letting go.
Letting go of control and the self-imposed limitations that we cling to. Yes.
Letting go of the stories that are not true and judgements that confine us.
Letting go of beliefs that no longer serve our highest good.
When we let go, we surrender.
And with each “should” and every “can’t” that we release,
A space is created for our truth to emerge.
In that space, we come face to face with the YES of our Souls.

Now is the perfect moment.
Life chose you.
Answer the call.

Be The Fool.

Below the Surface

Monday Meditations & Musings

Look underneath
Just below the surface
That’s where it gets interesting

It’s a space without a name
Where there is a blurring of the lines
And the art and the artist exist as one

Intuition rules action here
Logic is not welcome
Instead a thread of passion lights the way

Lead by the spirit, the spark, the pull of the Divine
We have all the reason we need for being
Crafting a life by courageously trusting in our own truth

The Art of Acceptance

Machu Picchu

Monday Meditations and Musings

Acceptance.  It’s a powerful tool for gathering joy.  The more I make room in my own heart and mind to accept aspects of myself and others that I find challenging, the happier I am. It’s not always easy, but practice really does help.  This path towards joy is a way of life.  One that brings new worlds of possibility to my doorstep every morning…each presenting an opportunity to pivot towards truth.  My truth.  It’s a daily decision: to make this pilgrimage to peace and to practice Acceptance every step of the way.

the synergy of the tribe

Monday Meditation

As artists, resistance may be our greatest challenge. I know it’s mine.  But when I push back, and begin, even when the energy to move forward doesn’t feel available in the moment, I never regret it.  When I ignore all of the temptations to not create, and instead, step into the process of making, it’s magical.  You know the feeling: time disappears, ideas flow, the mind empties, worries evaporate, stress melts away, moods brighten…it’s miraculous.  AND (here’s the bonus!) every other part of my life is better when I’m fully engaged in my own creative process.

On the days when resistance is particularly strong, I remind myself that perfection is not the goal…practice is.  To live each day as a practicing artist and to allow all else that is false to slip away…that’s the path I want to follow.  A daily practice can take many forms…how we each define it can be as unique as the work that we make.

What I’ve discovered along the way is that “going it alone” doesn’t work terribly well for me.  I do far better when I align myself with members of my creative tribe….an individual or community that cares about my joy as an artist and is equally committed to their own.  This is where synergy lives!

Over the years, my creative tribe has shown up in many different ways:  studio-mates, caring teachers, accountability partners, mentors, artistic collaborators, coaches, colleagues, mastermind partners, art salon members, brainstorming and critique groups,  art associations, engaged students, classmates, authors, and more.   What all of these  connections have held in common, is that with each, there has been a deep commitment to pursuing the path of creativity.  Add to that, the majority of these connections involved an expectation: to be an active member of the tribe, I had to show up.  After  more than two decades as a practicing artist and teacher, showing up is still the best way I know of to beat resistance.
